SHOWCASE: Skaven Rat Orgor

Time moves differently in The Warp. In what seems like the blinking of an eye, over two years have passed since we last posted here! Fortunately our brushes have not been idle and there is much for us to share this year. To kick things off here’s a new Rat Orgor!

Here’s a spin of the Rat Orgor from my new Foldio360

I recently picked up Chaos Adversaries for Warhammer Quest as I thought it would be a cool way to add some new minis to my collection. This inspired me to pick up the classic Island of Blood Skaven Rat Orgors from eBay. They came with a, shall we say, basic tabletop standard paint job, so I thought it would be a fun project to restore them!

This year I’m really trying to up my game painting, branching out into non-games workshop products and using more advanced techniques like glazing and wet palette.

I started off by tidying up any residual mold-lines and blocking in some new colours.

Models like this have enlarged, exaggerated features that are great to practice blending and contrast on. I’ve used Scale 75 skin tone paints as I wanted quite pink flesh for my Rat Orgor. These are fantastic for blending and glazing. I went for a malevolent albino look to go with the Skaven Warlord I painted a few years ago.

I’ve also tried to push the basing here. All my Age of Sigmar armies are based on jungle ruins from Ghur, the Realm of Beasts. I’ve incorporated brass etch foliage, Toad King bone debris and Even some moss pads by MiniNatur on top of Shattered Dominion basing bits.

I’m pretty happy with this as a weekend project and have given a great sculpt a new lease of life! I’ve even kept some of the original colours, like the armoured gauntlet to show the model’s legacy!

I’m hoping to reboot things here on Technasma. Please check back soon, we have T’au Empire, Disciples of Tzeentch, Nurgle Rotbringers and much more to share in the coming weeks!
